This is my Preliminary task of my college magazine front cover.

Question 6: What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Photography – While doing my coursework I learnt much more about camera work and taking photos as I had never taken photos from a camera before and I build up my photography skills the more I took them. I learnt what lightings would be best and what angles people work best at. When taking the photos I also had to keep in mind how to make it look professional. I also learnt how to actually function the camera and gained knowledge of how it works and what to press for which setting. For example I learnt how to use the timer which allows you to let the person who is normally behind the camera being in the photo so I could also be a part of it.
Photoshop – I have not had much experience in photo however I have briefly used it when I was younger however this time using Photoshop was much more advanced and it taught me very useful things that helped me in my coursework. It got much better at editing the photos and using/ experimenting the different tools. This made the outcome of my photographs much better and I could apply them to my magazine appropriately so it looked much more professional. I mostly learnt how to use the lasso tool much more accurately and to remove the background of my photos so they would fit and look better in my magazine. Alternatively I also experimented with the contrast settings and colour settings and ended up making my front cover monochrome and I found it gave it a much better outcome than when not effected

I took away red eye with the red eye remover and removed background as it did not look appropriate for article page.

Question 5: How did I appeal to and attract my target audience?

Before producing my magazine I conducted some audience research to find out what my audience would like to see in my magazine.

On my front cover I included free promotions, competition win chances and chances to also win concert tickets; these attract the audience and make them more interested. for example if they are interested in the concert that is promoted its most likely they will pick it up and read more about it. My cover lines promote briefly what the articles in my magazine will be about, this gives the audience and idea of what will be included inside and what they will be reading about.

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

All media products should always most likely have an audience in mind which will then have an impact on all the decisions made about content and design. Media products use demographics and VALs to determine who their audience is and to understand as much as they can about them.
As part of my planning I produced a readership profile similar to the NME profile to understand more about my target audience and develop it to my coursework.

I have chosen this audience because I have made my magazine fairly similar to NME. So the audience is more aimed towards teenagers and younger adults because the content is made most suitable for them. I believe my magazine can be aimed at both male and females however a little more towards females because of the content of gossip. My music theme is probably based more on R&B, pop and rap. These are all very diverse and popular genres of music with wide audiences so I have kept my audience gender quite open.
